Lawyer Learnings Log #4 - Pivoting "I wish" to "I will"

Lawyer Learnings Log No. 4: Pivoting “I wish” to “I will”

⚖ Learnings from the happenstance of my life as a lawyer ⚖

🙏I wish I could get in shape. I wish I could lose weight. I wish I could have more hours in the day. I wish this Covid thing would be o-vah! I wish I had time to read more. I wish I had just one more big client. I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish.

Sound familiar? I’ve been saying some of these things too. Guilty as charged!

But “I wish” is a passive way of going through one’s life. In the last few weeks, I’ve made a conscious effort to tweak just two actions a day and move from the passive “I wish”, to the action-based “I will”.

✅ No longer do I wish to get outside for a daily 30 minute walk; I go out for 30 & feel scandalous if I clock another 10.

✅ No longer do I wish I had time to read. I devote the first 15 minutes at the start of each day to reading.

💥I’m at a 98% success completion rate for those two small but significant pivots.

A bit late in the piece, I’ve discovered that the priorities I set and the activities I want to accomplish are really all completely up to me.

This is one of my #lawyerlearnings. There are 3️⃣ more learnings in the comments below👇

💥#2: Successful entrepreneurs’ value both dreams and actions: Dreams give us inspiration, but it is action that allows us to live out our dreams.

💥#3 Step by step: Change one idea at a time from passive, “I wish” to action-based “I will”. You will see how your life and everything you do will start to change towards positive. Delving into the book cocoon at the start of the day is so delicious. Not only that, I wake up excited to read another chapter after sleeping so well from the uptick in exercise.

💥#4 Change brings new discoveries: A new big client landing this week, has meant I can’t take afternoon walks. If I’d given up just because afternoon walks are impossible, I’d have missed the new-found joy of an evening walk – the beauty of a pathway of trees lit up with shimmering blue lighting and doggies out for walkies with glow-in-the-dark red and green collars.

🗣How are you converting your “I Wishes” into “I Wills”❓
