Squeezing less into 2023
New Years Day: 1.1.2023 in 🇳🇿
I didn’t expect that my end to 2022 and start to 2023 would be shrouded in Covid-19, first me and then my mum, who’s turning 90 this year.
Being ill brings the gift of reflection about what matters, about what you can squeeze in and what needs to be squeezed out, when faced with reduced physical and emotional bandwidth.
I’m grateful to have gotten this virus, I managed to avoid for 3 years, while back in New Zealand, with my family around to support.
I’m also grateful now to be having the gift of caregiving for my mum to nurse her through this virus back to health.
That word *#health* … it is once again the primary focus for me in 2023 but with even more renewed emphasis on the impacts on my health and a pull to squeezing out less not squeezing in more.
Modern work and other activities present us with plenty of opportunities to cram in more into our days. When we receive an unexpected request or come up with a new idea, our first thought is often this question:
“Can I squeeze this in?”
But the #bold new question foe me in 2023 is:
“Do I have what I need to do this well, while keeping myself well?”
❓ What are your fresh and reflective New Year’s Day thoughts for 2023?
